Area Info

History

In the 1700s, the Catawba and Cherokee Indians were the first to inhabit the area. About 50 years later, Scotch-Irish immigrants arrived, establishing churches and communities in the timberland. Years later, the American Revolution reached nearby Kings Mountain, where a battle now considered the turning point in the war was fought. A State and National Park now commemorates that historic battle.

Clover Today

Clover was incorporated as a town in 1887, intended to be one of the hundreds of railroad stopovers in the Carolinas. It was named after a peculiar phenomenon that occurred as the railroad industry developed. Water from the train's boiler repeatedly dampened the rich, red clay and promoted the growth of a carpet of clover. The town was originally given the name Cloverpatch, but eventually became known simply as Clover.

The community is just a few hours away from the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains of the Carolinas, or; in the other direction, a few hours from the Grand Strand beaches of South Carolina's coast.
There are recreational opportunities in nearby Lake Wylie and Paramount Carowinds Amusement Park. For the sports enthusiast, there are the Carolina Panthers football and the Knights baseball games within a 30-minute drive. King's Mountain National and State Park, just eight miles west of Clover, offers an historic museum, nature trails, camping, picnicking, and authentic colonial farm, and other activities.

People who have settled in Clover have come to enjoy many of its social opportunities. In addition to the Clover Community Theatre, there are several fraternal, civic, and professional organizations, and Douglas International Airport, only 25 miles northeast of Clover.
The Clover School System has become a leader in public education in South Carolina. Modern facilities and equipment and a dedicated staff (60% of whom

have earned advanced degrees) have helped the program excel in its field. The Clover School System is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the South Carolina Department of Education.

With so much to offer, the Clover Community is a caring one, with smiling faces and beautiful places. We invite you to visit us and just maybe you will find a home.
